Toward transparent injection with a multipole injection kicker in a storage ring

Achieving transparent Top-Up injection, characterized by stored beam position perturbations lower than 10% of the root mean square (rms) size beam, is very challenging for third-generation storage ring-based synchrotron light sources. The standard bump-based injection scheme used at SOLEIL 2.75-GeV ring daily operation relies on two pulsed septum magnets and four dipole kickers installed in a 12-m-long straight section. Perfect tuning to meet perturbation tolerances impossible since it would require least identical magnets, Ti-coated ceramic chambers, electronics. On way toward can be replaced single magnet, benefiting from field-free region path. This Multipole Injection Kicker (MIK), developed frame collaboration between MAX IV, currently IV 3-GeV ring, has proven transparency specifications. A copy MIK been short section January 2021. Perturbations less 2% rms were measured using newly high-performance diagnostics. In this article, start-to-end model MIK-based presented as well major challenges inherent designing such an innovative magnet. Then, results commissioning are depth along with diagnostics, which essential when levels stability achieved.
